Santa Barbara Martellotto Winery Welcomes Star Trek: Picard at Sunstone Winery
Beam me up to Santa Barbara Wine Country! Martellotto Winery owner Greg Martellotto is excited about welcoming Hollywood to the region. Last year, Star Trek: Picard filmed in the area at Sunstone Winery. Now, Trekkies will venture out to explore the region and experience all that Santa Barbara Wine Country offers.
"I think it's fantastic that the Los Angeles entertainment industry is helping our young wine region gain additional exposure by filming more projects in beautiful Santa Barbara wine country,” says Greg. “This is truly one of the most lovely places in the world, and we love sharing our bounty with visitors. We hope fans of Star Trek will visit “Chateau Picard” and other neighboring wineries."
The new series features Patrick’s Stewart’s Captain Picard retired to his family vineyard in France. However, the actual vineyard and winery featured in the series belong to the Sunstone Winery near Santa Ynez in southern California. Santa Ynez is part of the Santa Ynez AVA wine region in the greater Santa Barbara County wine region.
Being so close to Hollywood offered significant cost and time savings versus filming in France. Built with materials shipped in from southern France, Sunstone’s “French-style” winery appears authentic on screen.
Martellotto Winery is located only a mere eight miles from Sunstone Winery in Buellton. As a neighboring winery, Greg encourages Trekkies to stop by for a taste of his award-winning Bordeaux-style wines.
Visiting some of the many wineries in the area should be on any Trekkies’ agenda. Beyond Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, visitors will enjoy tasting different varieties and styles of wine available.
In the wine triangle of Buellton, Los Olivos, and Santa Ynez, visitors can spend an entire day without driving more than 30 miles.
With great restaurants, comfy accommodations, easy driving and parking, beautiful vistas, and delicious wine, Santa Barbara Wine Country delivers the perfect vacation.
Though only a short drive from Los Angeles, this wine region is a world away from the hustle of the big city. Anyone, including Trekkies, will be seduced by the laid-back wine lifestyle of Santa Barbara Wine Country.
When visiting Sunstone Winery, die-hard Star Trek fans can toast the new series with Picard, Data, and the rest of the cast.
Greg Martellotto encourages Trekkies making the pilgrimage to Sunstone to branch out. By visiting other wineries, they can enjoy the region’s celebration of food, wine, and good company. Costumes welcome!
